Unscripted
Through AdFreak, I came across the tourism website for Asheville, North Carolina. They are sponsoring a contest for everyday morons to shoot their own ad to attract people to the city.
The site also has example of some of their previous round TV and print spots, with the theme "Unscripted."
One spot features a middle-aged couple taking a tour of some mansion and enjoying classic architecture, then young wild mountain bikers come by and disturb them. The spot highlights the wide range of activities available to tourists, and the "anything can happen" attitude typified in the "unscripted" theme. Sorry I slipped into pitch mode.
Another spot shows two old saggy nudists playing in a river. No really.
Anyway, I decided to remix the two; featuring the middle-aged couple disturbed by the nude codgers. Its here on Google Video. Not spectacular.
Then, I decided to up the ante, and replaced the walking wrinkles with some footage from the trailer to a cheesy horror film. The 'film' (may actually be video) is called "Ice Queen" and the trailer was downloadable and bad enough that I thought I would hang onto it for just such an emergency. Now, this second mashup features our architectural tourists disturbed by a vicious killer alien she-beastie.
Slightly more amusing, especially the dull reaction shots from the couple as the creature sticks her taloned fist into some slacker's gut.

ACTUAL EMAIL RESPONSE TO THE SUBMISSION:
"Hi Bail,
Thank you for submitting your entry for the Asheville "Any Way You Like It" video contest. Unfortunately, the video that you sent us does not meet the requirements for inclusion in the contest and therefore does not qualify for the $100 prize.
While your video is very interesting, it does not speak to the overall contest's objectives as indicated in the “rules and regulations” section of our site. All videos submitted must be original and contain elements that would entice people to travel to the Asheville area.
If you're in the Asheville area anytime soon, or plan to visit before the June 15th deadline, we welcome you to submit another entry that fits more closely into the parameters of the contest.
Thank you again for entering our contest. The Asheville CVB encourages you to submit another video, and please don’t hesitate to call or e-mail me if you have any questions.

MY RESPONSE ANGELA NORRIS:
"Ms. Norris,
"All videos submitted must be original and contain elements that would entice people to travel to the Asheville area."
You are right. The elements were not original. However, I know a fair number of people for whom this would be enticing. Remember what "The Blair Witch Project" did for Burkittsville, Maryland? I think a well done viral campaign could lure ghost hunters and other paranormal investigators to Asheville.
That said, thanks for the advice. I'll keep working on it.
